The work of the designer in industrialised construction is changing, according to Umberto Zanetti of ZDA Zanetti Design Architecture. "The project must precede the construction phase in detail. We need to think about everything, forecasting the typical variants that occur in the construction phase. It is a skill that needs to be developed and requires an idea of the entire process and knowledge of the outcome right from the very first day.” Zanetti, presented various cases of high end real estate, produced in Italy and exported, to REbuild, emphasising the fact that: “4.0 construction has made it possible to simultaneously construct and produce furnishings. No longer do I have to wait to make a relief-drawing to be able to design the furnishings. This puts us in parallel with the world of shipbuilding where everything is done in 3D within a few millimetres of tolerance.”
(Watch the video of the interview in which Umberto Zanetti explains in detail the interesting opportunities for internationalisation and export that this process opens up).
By designing ahead, this actually makes it possible to intervene on the internal design, while the building is still under construction, with the consequent containment of costs and optimisation of the result. Thanks to this greater synchrony between architecture and design, the designer has a further opportunity to enhance his product.Over and above the functional advantages, the aesthetics and the reduction in time and costs, all of this can also become an extraordinary marketing tool. Future purchasers will no longer have to buy ‘on paper,’ trying to imagine what their living space will be like, but they will, instead, be able to see concrete results with furniture and accessories already included.
This "turnkey" buying experience is becoming increasingly widespread, such as that of the nòvAmpère complex in Milan which, right in the middle of the construction phase, offers a show home that is finished in the most intricate detail and is perfectly functioning, as can be seen here: http://www.manped.eu/2018/07/novampere-2/
