Born in Barcelona, Spain in 1956. Graduated with a degree in Architecture from the Barcelona Superior School of Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in 1988. Joan is professor of the courses Organization and Building-site Control and Building and Support Teams, part of the Building Sciences and Technologies degree from La Salle Superior School of Architecture at The University of Ramón Llull. Currently, he is developing a doctoral thesis with the provisional title, “Ground on the Roof: a Study of the Eixample Neighborhood of Barcelona”, under the supervision of PhD holders Núria Martí and Gerardo Wadel, La Salle. Since June 2017 he is the General Manager of an IBEROEKA R & D & i Project. SEMA (Advanced Modular Building System) is financed by CDTI and it is approved on International phase. Artés has served as president and voting member of several juries for the Final Academic Project in the Building Sciences and Technologies degree for the School of Architecture and Engineering, La Salle, University of Ramón Llull. He is CEO and founder of La Casa por el Tejado (2012) and co-founder of Tesgat architecture studio with Oriol Cugat since 1983. Artés has participated in various seminars and national and international congresses, giving conferences in Portugal and Spain on architectural projects, rehabilitation and sustainable building. He has constructed and refurbished single- and multi-family homes, sporting venues, penitentiaries, industrial & institutional buildings and hotel facilities. Among his most important clients are IOSA, Kern Pharma, Catalan Corporation of Radio and Television, the Generalitat of Catalonia and the City Hall of Barcelona. In 2014, with La Casa por el Tejado, Joan began renovating and vertically extending buildings in the Eixample neighborhood of Barcelona by developing specific project methodologies and modular industrialized construction systems. Currently, there are eight buildings that have been expanded under this methodology and 15 more in the pipeline.
