Even though the term “off-site construction” is relatively new in Italy, in our market there are already different experiences, practices, products, and competences that operate both on a national and international level. This session will go deeper with a vivid review of some of the best cases, projects, and solutions “prefab in Italy”.

The transformation of our cities needs new forms of integration between public and private actors able to internalize the knowledge and resources that administrations today are not able, alone, to put into play. National and international experiences are not lacking, but the challenge is to systematize them in a coherent and integrated legal and regulatory framework.

A new way of building that shifts building site operations (on-site) to the factory (off-site): the construction industry is changing and transforming, merging logistics and manufacturing processes into production sequences conditioned by the peculiar nature of construction projects. The challenge itself is no less than that which depends on it: greater technical and economic efficiency with falling costs and new margin opportunities for the sector; greater reliability in terms of respect for budget and execution timescales and improved quality of working conditions.
OFF-SITE CONSTRUCTION: BUILDINGS MOVE TO THE FACTORY
New processes and values in innovative construction
Many national and international businesses have already started the process of industrialisation and increased productivity through huge investments in new technology and processes. Bouygues is one of the most highly renowned companies at global level for its innovation. Automation, robotics, 3D print, immersive environments and increased reality, flying factories, the Internet for things and smart wearable form the new dictionary for their innovation team. This session will investigate these systems, highlighting the potential for the national building industry, thanks to two large Italian constructors.
Thomas Miorin, President - RE-Lab Srl
Pierre Barrelet, Development and Strategy Director - Bouygues Construction
Jacopo Palermo, General Manager - Immobiliare Percassi S.p.A
Maurizio Focchi, Owner - Focchi S.p.A.
How does a developer choose an off-site technology these days?
Wood, cement, steel: off-site construction represents a common prospective and a range of technologies. The shifting of productive processes from the building site to the factory is not actually the prerogative of specific technological solutions, but rather a frontier that involves a wide variety of building techniques and productive processes, with limitations and opportunities that need to be carefully assessed and compared.
Which technologies for which situations? What are the costs and for which type of performance? And what are the timescales?
Ezio Micelli, Chairman - Scientific Committee REbuild
Luca Benetti, Director - Stahlbau Pichler
Giorgio Bignotti, Director - Sistem Costruzioni S.r.l.
Evangelista Zampatti, AD - Moretti Construction Systems
The industrial approach to the construction opens new business models and changes relations and roles between the actors of the construction production chain. From an idea of prefabricated construction , “La casa por el tejado” proposes redevelopment and vertical enlargements for the roofs of the European capitals, exporting a tested product which was launched in Barcellona and realized with Italian products.
Emanuela Recchi, President - Recchi Engineering
Joan Artés, Architect and founder - La casa por el Tejado
Alessandro Cuomo, CMO and Institutional Relations - Manni Group
Lessons from post-seismic emergency constructions
There are very few situations in which efficiency and the operational value of new technological solutions are measured as those that have to respond to catastrophic events, such as the recent earthquakes that have struck the central area of our country. In this participative session, there will be a presentation of technologies that make it possible to manage emergencies with incredibly fast and effective interventions, created and executed with Italian technology and skill.
Francesco Cattaneo, General Manager - Habitech

Meeting up, getting to know together.. make business
The Business School Dating, the new entry of great success of the 2016 edition of REbuild, is going to be present in this edition as well. Enrichment of the format of the event and a moment of meeting face-to-face aimed at the development of the relations and possible business contacts between the protagonists of the event.
The exasperation and the reiteration of the same input (technological, regulatory, project) bring us to have “packaged products”. In the preliminary design phase, the project is to be substituted by the “already codified” that preludes to a “pseudo prefabrication of an energetic and/or functional thought”. In the repetitive plot of the building, of the habits, the norms, the rules, we lose the spacial, architectonic, urban, poetic invention. At this moment the risk is to go from the extreme point of wasting-energy buildings to the other point, of repetitive buildings with soul or body. The project is a vision, is a reality, is a responsibility, is a production chain, is a process. We need to start a dialectical path between all that gives life to the project during the path, and the most important actors of the process, that have different languages but need to work for the unity of the project. It is the architect’s responsibility to be in charge of this action, it is the responsibility of the production chain to risk through the project. It is the responsibility of everybody to look at the path and its depths and not only at the surface of the result. The project needs to build responsibly “happiness”.
Alfondo Femia, AD - 5+1AA
Houzz presents this year to REbuild an important study on how families in our country transform their homes. Almost 230,000 owners from around the world responded to the survey, of which about 3,000 Italians have given precise indications of: the nature and quality of interventions; their cost and the technologies employed; the use of professionals and businesses.
Carlo Ezechieli, Scientific director - IOArch
Alfondo Femia, CEO - 5+1AA
Mattia Perroni, Managing Director - Houzz
This year, REbuild will be fuelled by energy produced, managed and distributed locally, using a micro smart-grid. Micro-grids are systems that generate and deliver electricity to a defined area, (such as buildings, a campus or a neighbourhood), and are transforming the face and the economic aspects of energy systems at international level with a projected turnover of 40 billion dollars in the year 2020.
This session will not only present the project from a technical point of view, but it will also highlight the potential uses and economic advantages as well as the adoption prospective in relation to the normative context.
Marco Dal Mas, Architect Project Manager - Evolvere
David Moser, Head of Research Group - Eurac
Davide Tinazzi, Project Coordinator for REbuild Microgrid
Gianni Silvestrini, President - GBC Italia
REbuild is also a moment of networking together with a moment of relaxing and a drink at the end of the day.
