The “Consiglio Nazionale Geometri e Geometri Laureati” was founded with Legislative Decree n.283 of the 23 November 1944 to represent on a national level the category of surveyors, regulated with Royal Decree of 11 February 1929, n.274. From its founding, the Council is situated at the Minister of Justice. It represents the Category and exercises the attributions based on the existing laws, giving advice about the law and regulatory projects that are about the profession ( when requested by the Minister), helps the development and the promotion of the Category, regulates the quality of the professional performances that safeguard the client and the community. The Council carries out, as a special judge, jurisdictional activities with regard to the complaints of the decisions taken by the provincial and district councils and in regard to the complaints of the electoral procedures of the territorial councils. The reform of professions (Decree of the President of the Republic n.137 of the 7 august 2012) has given to the Council new tasks, like the regulation of the compulsory and continuous formation, the discipline of the professional traineeship and the conducting mode of the disciplinary activity. The Council is composed of 11 members, elected by the 110 territorial councils and the President, elected inside the Council, represents the Category in every context, even in the various inter-professional national and international organisms.
